I have been cooking for 30 years. During that time, I have used a lot of pots and pans. And unless you are going to take the time to buy cast iron and then consistently use it and carbonize it for decades, never once washing it and only scouring it with rock salt, Le Creuset is the next best thing. They are terrific because (1) they are cast iron, which will hold and distribute heat perfectly, (2) the porcelain coating is incredibly durable and easy to clean, (2) they look great, (3) they move from stove, oven, to table without trouble, and (4) the lids always fit (and if you buy different colors like I do, its easy and quick to match the lid to the pot. There are always at least one or two of these sitting on my stove, as they look so nice! Yes, cast iron is heavy. So if you have strength problems (age, health, other), then these may not be for you. That said, this particular pan has a grip on the other side from the handle, which makes it easy to use your second hand to handle the weight if you need to. I imagine that my kids will be fighting over my Le Creuset pans when I move to the big kitchen in the sky.I am behind the curve in acquiring Le Creuset cookware. I got the 5 1/2 quart French Oven last year. This year we replaced the 19 year old cooktop with induction and needed to get appropriate cookware, since most of ours is aluminum. This 1 3/4 quart saucepan has worked beautifully. I used it to make peanut and wasabi pea brittle. Kind of a scary thing to do in a pan that is not "non-stick" and on a new type of cooking device. Success! The brittle was perfect and I did not burn anything onto the bottom of the pot. When it cooled down, but was still a little warm, I filled it with hot water and let it soak about 20 minutes. It cleaned up as easily as a "non-stick" pan. It is a cute little pot and the Caribbean color makes me happy. This one was the last piece I wanted to join the other 3 Le Creuset pans and pots that I have. Le Creuset is by far a superior cooking product. You use less energy because of the way the pan heats up evenly. Its best to keep the heat low or med/low as it cooks most efficiently. the best way to heat it up is to start on med/low and let the pan heat up gradually. I am vegan so I cook vegetables and soups and make beans. There is no better pan for this. You can turn the pan off and whatever you are making will continue to cook. I will be using this pan a lot for many things. Quality product and excellent value. It's a Le Creuset, so you probably know the quality of this product. I'll just say that it's great for one or two people -- probably a little small if you're cooking a dish for more than two people. We're using this with an induction stovetop and it works wonderfully.I own a LOT of Le Creuset pots. This particular pot had quality issues --- I had to send back 4 pots before the 5th one that Amazon sent was OK. The problem was thin glazing that let metal show through the blue! At the same time I ordered this pot, I also ordered other Le Creuset items, all of which were perfect. I think that the manufacturer has a glazing issue with this pot size. If you buy one of Le Creuset's wonderful pots, look it over for glazing defects, especially over the lettering on the handle and lid. One pot even came with a bit of rust on the metal where the glazing did not cover the metal.Le Creuset never disappoints. Even cooking, non sticking, super easy to clean.. and CUTE!! Love it!Beautiful and light weight. Just perfect for making rice, soups and gravy. I've just ordered the 2.25 qt so I have one just a bit larger. I cooked my onion and celery before adding the rest for my soup. When I went to wash the dishes I noticed it had brown spots where the onions had fried on the bottom. Well, I don't know why I got worried because it all came off easy with a scrubby sponge!Like it a lot - my second. Only issue with light colored enamel is that it shows stains from black beans over time.Very well made. Heats evenly and easy to clean. What you’ve come to expect from Le Creuset. This saucepan is a perfect size for every day use.
