Description
"A vivid and compelling first-hand account of Margaret Thatcher's diplomacy."—Henry KissingerFormer British Ambassador to the United States Robin Renwick was Margaret Thatcher's foreign policy advisor during some of the most controversial events of her career. Centering on her relationship with Ronald Reagan and how they worked together to end the Cold War, Renwick's memoirs of that time are a fascinating window onto how Thatcher became one of the most globally prolific leaders of her generation, and the effect it had not just on her country but on the world.

Si Robin Renwick writes well and entertainingly about his years in the diplomatic service of the great Margaret Thatcher. He puts into perspective the often trenchant criticism of her alleged "support" for unsavoury regimes such as South Africa under apartheid. He shows that the knee-jerk nasty remarks about this alleged support is inaccurate; in fact, she made no bones about her opposition to these regimes. From someone whose knowledge of foreign affairs was minimal when she became Prime Minister, she learnt fast and well. The author leaves one in no doubt that, had she not been in power in 1983, the male pygmies such as the odious Heath would have ensured that the Falklands would now be Malvinas.A perfect companion for the longer and more detailed authorised biography of the strongest leader since her idol, Churchill
