You'll have to pardon me because this will be a somewhat long story full of actual evidence that the supplement works. It All Began because I was extremely anemic as shown in my blood work. The doctor prescribed me an iron supplement along with vitamin C as is standard practice, and I took this Faithfully for three months and then went in for blood work again. I was still extremely anemic and the iron supplement they prescribed caused stomach upset, even when taken with food. I was disappointed that my anemia had not improved. I began researching and found that iron generally should not be taken with meals because most of the foods we eat such as grains beans nuts and seeds as well as some vegetables block iron absorption. So I found that iron should be taken on an empty stomach at least 2 hours after eating and two hours before eating again. As a result, I began to take my doctor prescribed supplement in the morning 2 hours before getting out of bed. This resulted in a lot of nausea that I can equate only to morning sickness during pregnancy. However because I was severely anemic, I was willing to suffer through this if that was the only way to alleviate the problems. The results of my next blood work showed Improvement in several but not all areas used to assess anemia. But I was really getting tired of the morning sickness type nausea. So I began searching for a different iron supplement. I found an iron supplement called blood Builder which was quite expensive, $45 for 180 pills was the cheapest available and I had to take 2 pills a day. After a couple months I had my blood work done again and found that my anemia was mostly gone. Noting that two pills were not quite equal to the amount of iron in the prescription originally given to me, I began to take 2 and 1/2 pills per day. At my next blood work I was completely free from being anemic. However this was really expensive in my mind, and it did cause some mild stomach upset at times. The pills were also big, kind of hard to swallow but manageable, and had a kind of funky taste and smell.I wanted a more economical option so I began researching a little further and started looking for a different supplement that might give me the same benefits at a lower cost and hopefully no stomach upset. As I researched I found that there are several different types of iron and the type of iron that is in this supplement absorbs slightly better than the type of iron in the Mega Foods blood Builder formula and most over-the-counter (such as you might buy at Walmart) as well as prescription iron supplements.I paid about $20 for a two bottles of 100 pills each from Amazon rather than a Marketplace seller and only had to take two pills per day. They are capsules, much smaller than the blood Builder pills, and have no detectable taste or smell. I have had zero stomach upset even though I take these along with vitamin C chewable on an empty stomach. The big question that remained when I switched to this supplement was whether my iron levels would be adequate. My next blood work showed all of my numbers being wonderful. My B vitamins and folic acid were all really good whereas they had been on the low side of normal before. My anemia was gone and my iron levels were even better than the previous blood test. So now I am paying about $20 for a 100 day supply instead of $45 for a 72 day supply, and no stomach upset at all.I have been anemic most of my life constantly used to chew ice, and the desire is completely gone now. I will be taking this probably until the day I die, and I am perfectly fine with that. I also posted a rather lengthy positive review on the Mega Foods blood Builder 180 count product. That review was posted before I found this supplement. But I can say I will never go back to blood Builder after this. Much easier on my pocketbook and my stomach. This is a life-changer.I am a 48 year old female and have been anemic for as long as I can remember. Here is a little bit more information for anyone who has struggled with anemia. In addition to taking two pills along with 250 mg of chewable vitamin C 2 hours before getting up in the morning, I also take 500 mg of chewable vitamin C with each meal. I normally only eat two meals a day though. I was led to doing this after reading a study of 500 grade school aged children who were anemic. Half of the group continued to eat as they always had. The other half of the group ate the same as they always had as well, with the exception of the fact that they were given 65 mg of vitamin C with all phytate rich meals, meaning meals that contained grains nuts seeds beans Etc. At the end of the study which I believe was around 9 weeks, all of the children who took vitamin C were no longer anemic. And all of the children who made no changes were still anemic. None of the children taking vitamin C were even prescribed iron yet they were no longer anemic. Just something to consider if you happen to be dealing with anemia.Really glad I now have an affordable iron supplement that does not upset my stomach, ever!I purchased multiple bottles of this Iron supplement because I feel more energy and mental clarity when I take it. This complex that includes Vitamin B12, supports my body/mind health with multiple important nutrients that may not be available in my plant-based diet. Highly recommend Zahler Iron Complex.Noticeable difference in energy when I do take supplement vs when I don’tI have been suffering from chronic anemia over the last year. It wasn't until my immune system was compromised to the point of getting pneumonia that I figured I ought to get it treated. I blame the delay in figuring things out to the extreme 'brain fog' I was experiencing. I felt 'dumb'... my brain was not working. My Dr just said to take over the counter supplements without much help. I was frankly not looking forward to the bowel issues from standard options available. I found a naturopathic supplement with Vitamin C to help with absorption and reports of being mild on side effects. I was only taking 100% daily dose at the time. It seemed fine, but my hemoglobin was not improving. My Dr. them advised that I take 3x daily recommended dose. Yikes. When I ran out, I went online to purchase more and the cost was high for the new dosage. I then started looking for similar products and was pleased (and encouraged) by the reviews given by users of the Zahlers Iron Complex. I had no hesitation in placing my order. It has been less than a month and I feel like things are getting better. To illustrate my situation a little better, I will explain the problems I was having before I started taking 3x daily dose of Zahlers. I am 49, and have heavy menstrual cycles my whole life. I figured that I am done having children, so I went to see an OB about a hysterectomy. They discovered an enlarged fibroid that was causing my excessive blood loss and resultant anemia. Hysterectomy is not the only option for women wanting to remain fertile. I found out that 80% of women have fibroids, but mostly they do not cause problems, but when they do, it's important to seek treatment from your OB (they can identify the fibroid with ultrasound). My anemia caused me to fall into a deep depression and suffer from anxiety. I was not functioning well at all and my fatigue was overwhelming, I didn't feel like doing anything and my brain was in a fog. I was so sad to feel so sad. I've started to feel better, sleep better and do more. I'm feeling more interested in taking charge of my life again and crawled out of my 'rabbit hole' to participate with friends, church and community. I am a single mom with two children under age 10 and a full-time college student entering my Junior year this Fall. I was so worried about handling it all with the way I was feeling. Thank's to Zahlers Iron Complex, I see a light! I have not experienced difficulty with taking the high dose I require. Some tips that I believe have helped me: take 1 hour before any dairy or other food that interferes with absorption (Google to find what these are)... making sure it's at least 3 hours after. I eat a little something with it, just to be sure I don't upset my stomach. A handful of nuts and fruit do it, or a dairy free protein bar. I've even kept it by my bedside table and taken in the middle of the night when I invariably wake up to use the bathroom. This way I'm assured I don't have anything on board that would interfere. Anyway, this has been a life-saver and a blessing, truly. I hope this review will help someone else find relief. Thank you!I cannot believe that in the 21st century they would allow pharmaceutical products to make claims that are just not true. This "new generation" thing about this product not having the usual side effects is a farce. A few hours after taking the first pill I started to feel bloated, and three days later I had to stop taking them as I was severely constipated. So I would say this product is just common iron, nothing special, same effects and side effects.Six months ago I found myself breathless and obviously anaemic despite taking a daily liquid supplement containing iron. I researched the problem and learned that I shouldn't be taking iron at the same time as calcium (which was in the liquid) or with tea etc. etc. It's actually quite difficult for us to absorb iron! I changed some of my dietary habits and started taking these capsules once a day and can now climb the slopes where I live while holding a conversation with my dogs. The capsules are easy to swallow. I had read an article in my newspaper stating that iron supplements were good for those suffering from fatigue etc. My husband and I have taken these for a week now. Unfortunately my husband has had a rather worrying side-effect, so we have stopped taking them. I am sure the supplement is fine for some, however not for us.I was desperate as nails flaked and hair was falling out seriously but the thought of iron tabs effect on my stomach plus I am vegan made me wary but doc recommended so I tried and WOW!Super results nails like iron excuse the pun.Hair growing back and still kind on my internals which is so important.Recommend to anyone in my position.Just for the book I am a 71 year old female from the UKAnemia is nothing new for me. But finding an iron supplement that doesn't play havoc with my stomach is another story. I know I need the iron. So, entirely prepared to have to taper off due to discomfort, I tried this one. It has been almost two weeks and I am still able to take it regularly with no ill effects. Whether it is the capsule vs. tablet, the addition of Vit C and other adjuncts to the formula that works for me, I can't be sure. But it does work for me and for that I'm grateful.
